Elmont Engine Co. 703 is one of eight companies that protect the residents of the Elmont fire district, New York . Elmont is in the 7th Battalion of Nassau County bordering Queens F.D.N.Y. The area we cover is one of the most heavily populated and diverse parts of the county. Members of Engine 703 pride themselves on aggressive interior attack, professionalism and training. Elmont Engine 703 has, and always will continue to provide fire protection to the residents of the district and surrounding areas.

Bedroom Fire

On 8/27/08 Elmont Fire was assigned to 587 Oakley Ave for a fire in a house. As the chief went on scene he reported smoke showing and transmitted a signal for a working fire. The fire was located on the 2nd floor rear of a two story frame private dwelling. L-708 was first in and made entry and located the fire. E-703 stretched the line and held the fire to a 2nd floor rear bedroom. All searches were negative with no injuries to report and companies were placed back in service within 40 min.  

 
   
   
 
Special Call for E-703 and L-708

On 7/23/08 at 07:25 hrs E-703 and L-708 were assigned to relocate to Valley stream F.D. to cover in the 3rd Battalion. The Woodmere F.D. was battling a fire in a turn of the century wood frame dwelling that required the response of most the 3rd battalion companies. E-703 and L-708 were assigned to stand by in Valley Stream. E-703 and L-708 were assigned to a reported house fire while on the relocation that wound up being unfounded. After a few hrs Elmont companies were released as Valley Stream companies were released from the Woodmere job.

 
   
   
 
Belmont Park Again

At 09:56 hrs on 7/19/08 Elmont Fire was assigned to box 1845 the Belmont Race track for a fire in the basement of the Grand Stand. As the companies were responding calls were being received from Belmont security reporting a fire in an electrical store room. As the companies and the chief went on scene a working fire was transmitted. E-703 Stretched the line with E-702 and held the fire to the one room. TL-707 was the first in truck and made the search and opened up with L-708 and R-1. All searches were negative and no injuries were reported. All companies were soon placed back in service.

 
 
Special Call for E-703 and L-708

On 7/17/08 Elmont E-703 and L-708 were special called to assist the Valley Stream Fire Department at the scene of a fire in a large 2 ½ story private dwelling. E-703 and L-708 went on scene within 5 min and stretched a backup line at the fire and also helped with the initial line. L-708 assisted with venting and opening up. Elmont companies were released after the fire was placed under control.

 
   
   
 
Belmont Park Fire

On 7/5/08 The Elmont Fire Department was assigned to box 1845 the Belmont Race Track Grand Stand. As units were responding dispatch received additional calls from the BRT Security confirming a fire in the basement. As units went on scene a signal for a working fire was transmitted by the chief. The fire was located in the basement of the grand stand. First in E-703 stretched a line to the fire with the 2nd due E-702 and made quick work of it. The searches were conducted by L-708, TL-707 and the Rescue. All searches turned up negative and the fire was held to a small area in the basement. All units were up in about 1 ½ hrs with no injuries.  

 
 
Attic Fire

At 03:00 on 6/10/08 Elmont Fire was assigned to 1666 Lee St for a house fire. As the units were responding the chief went on scene and reported a working fire. E-703 was first due and stretched a line to the fire. L-708 was in Next and opened up. The fire was located in the attic space and held there by the men from the Elmont fire department. All searches proved negative and no injuries were reported. All F.D. units were placed back in service in 40 min.

 
 
Fire in the Walls

On 5/31/08 at 14:46 Elmont Fire was assigned to 858 Prescott Ave for a report of fire in a house. As units were responding they were advised by the chief of a working fire. The fire was located in the walls of a one story private dwelling. First in E-703 stretched a line inside and stood fast as the truck opened up. L-708, TL-707 and R-1 all opened up and made the searches. The fire was knocked down quickly and held to the walls on the 2 side of the house. The searches turned up negative with no injuries to report. All companies were up in about 49 min.

 
   
   
 
Fire at Belmont Park

On 5/17/08 The Elmont Fire Department was assigned to the Belmont Race Track for a fire in a barn. As units were responding additional info was reporting a confirmed fire in an occupied barn. As the chief went on scene a signal for a working fire was transmitted for a fire in a45x150 barn with multiple horses inside. First in E-702 Stretched a line to the fire. E-703 stretched a line to the opposite side of the fire to protect the horses that were trapped inside. L-708, TL-707 and R-1 were all on scene to open up and to help the track staff remove the horses from the barn. The fire was contained to one stall and no death or injuries were reported. All companies were up within 45 min.

On 3/9/08 Elmont F.D. was assigned to 54 Savoy Ave for reports of smoke from a house. As units were responding additional calls were received for a house fire. When the chief went on scene he reported a working fire on the first floor of a two story frame private dwelling. E-702 was the first in engine followed by E-703. Hand lines were stretched by the engines and L-708 and TL-707 opened up and made the search. The fire was placed under control in 35 min with the searches proving negative throughout. All units were placed back in service soon after with no injuries to report.

 
   
   
 
2nd Floor Job!!

On 3/8/08 at 2200 hrs the Elmont Fire Department was assigned to 886 Fletcher Ave for a fire in a private dwelling. On the arrival of the chief a signal for a working fire was transmitted for fire on the top floor rear of a two story frame private dwelling. Fire was venting out a bay window in the rear. First arriving L-708 made entry and conducted the search with assistance from the 2nd due TL-707 and rescue 1. E-704 was the first in engine and stretched a hand line to the fire. E-703 was 2nd due and backed up E-704 with the 2nd hand line. The fire was held to one room in the rear and the searches proved negative. All units went available in about 45 min with no injuries to report.

 
   
   
 
TRAFFIC LIGHT ACCIDENT

On 2-6-08 at 1410 hrs E-703 and E-702 were special called to the intersection of Hempstead Tpk and Meacham Ave for a car that was struck by a falling traffic light. E-703 was 1st due and found an auto that was crushed by a traffic signal light. There was one person in the vehicle at the time but there was no pin. The driver was transported to an area hospital by Nassau Police Ambulance with minor neck and back injuries.E-703 went available soon after the intersection was secured. The intersection remained closed down for a few hours so that workers could get the traffic light back up and working.

On Feb 4 at 0946 hrs E-703 was assigned to 180 Hunnewell Ave for a reported house fire. As E-703 started out the dispatcher advised them that they were recieving multiple calls with a posible person traped. As E-703 went on scene a signal for a working fire was transmitted for fire on the 1st and 2nd floor of a 2 story frame private dwelling.. The men from E-703 started a line to the front door and knocked the fire down quickly. A 2nd line was put to work on the 2nd floor by E-703 as well. L-708 made the search and opened up. The fire was placed under control within 30 min with all the searches turning up negative..

 
   
   
 
FIRST DUE PRIVATE DWELLING

On 7/21/07 Elmont Fire Department was called to 2049 Hoffman Ave for a fire in a private dwelling. Asst Chief Schriefer (7011) went on scene first and transmitted a signal for a working fire on the second floor of a two story frame peaked roof p/d 20X40. The first to arrive companies L-707 and E-703 went to work.. Members of the truck opened up and preformed the searches with L-708 and R-1 while E-703 stretched a line to the fire with the assistance of E-702. The brothers from Elmont made quick work of the fire, all searches proved negative. In all two lines were stretched with one line in operation. The fire was placed under control in about 30 min with no extension. All companies were up in one hour..

On 7/1/07 the Elmont Fire Department was called to 8 Ascan St at 20:53 hrs for fire coming from the roof of a house. When the chief 7010 arrived on scene he transmitted a working fire in a 2 story wood frame private dwelling. Initially reports were that the fire was on the top floor. E-703 stretched the line and stood fast at the front door while the men from L-708 searched for the fire. The fire was quickly located in the basement and E-703 made quick work of it. All searches were negative and the fire was placed under control in 30 minutes.
